My name is Madi Camp-Chimenti and I am from Sammamish, WA. I am currently a junior at Washington State University pursuing a degree in Communication with an emphasis in advertising and a minor in Business and Psychology. My major and minors work well together as business and psychology are strongly tied into communication. Learning the psychology behind why people are the way that they are will guide me in appealing to their wants/needs with advertising for a product/service. In terms of business, I want to gear my minor towards marketing since advertising and marketing go hand-in-hand as they are both trying to get people to want a company's product/service. I came into college not knowing what I wanted to major in, but after taking multiple communication classes, I love my major and am excited to carry it into my life after I graduate.
This semester the main focus in my schedule is on communication; I am taking Communication 420, Communication 320, and Comstrat 381. In order to further my progress in my minors, I am taking Marketing 360, which also counts as a class towards my major. I am also taking Psychology 324, which is the Psychology of Gender. I am looking forward to taking all of these classes as they are all geared more towards what I am interested in and what I want to be learning about. To add onto my full course of classes, I am in a sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta, on campus where I am the Chief Marketing Officer. As Chief Marketing Officer, I oversee all of the chapter's social media accounts as well as over 180 member's social media accounts. Along with social media, I oversee all of the activities during Mom's Weekend and Dad's weekend, such as designing and ordering apparel, putting on events at the house, and running a live and silent auction to raise money for improvements around the house. My sorority has added so many wonderful aspects to my life that has changed my life. Along with class and my sorority, I'm also going into my third semester of being an Athletic Tutor for the university, where I work over 10 hours a week helping athletes with their classes. Since I have many different things going on, my schedule is always full, but this allows me to work diligently and get my work done efficiently.
Throughout this semester I want to learn more on how to advertise on various media platforms, how to portray a successful story/message through blog posts and images, and how to successfully create campaigns that appeal to certain audiences. Just in creating the basics of my blog, I have gotten increasingly excited about my topic and writing blog posts. I think that writing this blog will help with my writing skills and allow me to learn more about my topic. I chose my blog topic because it is something that has become increasingly important to me as I have gotten older, and feel that it will be interesting to write about. I'm hoping to write about various types of exercise, different ways to eat well, and fun activities to do with friends to stay active. Overall, I am very excited to be enrolled in Comstrat 381 and to learn different strategies that will improve my skills, which will carry into my career and make me more appealing when finding a job after graduation.
