While there are many factors that make it hard for people to commit to leading a healthy lifestyle, one reoccurring issues is that it is difficult for people to make time to go to the gym because of their busy schedules. What many people don't realize is that it's much more effective to have some type of physical activity in a day rather than skipping a day or two of working out, and then having one really long workout out 1-2 times a week. Outlined below is a 30-minute lower body workout to do at home or in a gym:
This circuit is comprised of three types of workouts. The first is a short cardio set to get your heart rate up, which will warm your body up and get your blood flowing to increase muscle development and decrease chances of injury. The following five leg exercises are simple ways to make the muscles in your legs gain strength. The last four ab exercises gives your legs a rest between sets while gaining strength in the core of your body, which allows the rest of your body to maintain more strength. Repeating these workouts three times is important for muscle development. Overall, this quick 30-minute workout is beneficial as it only takes up a small portion of your day, you won't get bored at the gym, plus it's easily customizable to what you are capable of accomplishing. http://www.shape.com/fitness/workouts/how-build-perfect-circuit-workout http://www.shape.com/fitness/workouts/7-benefits-circuit-training-and-one-downside http://www.fitnessmagazine.com/workout/lose-weight/burn-fat/circuit-training-workout/

Everyone starts their health journeys at different stages in their life. Some people are young and athletic, so leading a healthy lifestyle comes easily, whereas some people don't necessarily work out or pay attention to what they eat until they are old and the effects of this start to impact their bodies. Nike's brand always promotes "Just Do It," however, in 2012, Nike ran an ad campaign called, "Find Your Greatness." The slogan alone can be relatable to people all of over the health and fitness spectrum, as it's saying to find whatever it is that makes YOU great. The image used in the advertisement is a kid who is overweight, running down a gravel road in a rural area. The image paired with the slogan is encouraging its consumers, from all different ends of the spectrum, to use whatever you have available to you to succeed in your own way. This image also shows implies the motto that "anyone can do it," not just people who are already lean and athletic. As college students, everyone comes in with different backgrounds in health and fitness. Some students were successful high school, varsity athletes, whereas others had never worked out before coming to college, nor did they ever watch what they eat. This ad resonates with college students as it shows to embrace whatever you have around you in order to "become great." This advertisement isn't placed in a gym or on a sports field, the character doesn't look like an extreme athlete, nor is he obviously wearing nike clothes. It is evident that Nike is trying to appeal to the masses, and this resonates with college students in that way. - Secrets Of 7 Of The Most Effective Ad Campaigns

Many people get caught up in finding a job that meets their financial needs, yet don't find jobs that necessarily fit what they care about. If I were able to make a living in living a healthy lifestyle, I would either want to work for a health club educating people in the steps it takes to live a healthy life or I would want to run a blog where I got paid to post about different products, workout routines, outfits, food, etc. If I were to write a paid blog, I would want to get to the point where different companies were sending me samples of their products to try and write reviews about on my blog. Being able to write about what I am passionate about while trying new products for free would be a great opportunity. The blog below is an example of someone who posts and uses her passion to teach people about leading a healthy lifestyle. If I were to work for a health club, I would want to work in a department that works directly with those that were looking to start living a healthy lifestyle. Ideally, this would be a high end health facility that has programs available to help people find specialized workouts and meal plans to get them on track to lead a healthy lifestyle. Leading a healthy lifestyle is hard for many people so it would be extremely rewarding to find a way to make a living teaching people various techniques to maintain a healthy lifestyle. http://wholefoodiebooty.com Pictures: http://trepscore.com/blogging-important-startups/, http://lablogbeaute.co.uk/index.php/category/business/blogging/, http://www.gadgetluxe.co.uk/root/news-virgin-active-200-aldersgate-the-tech-enabled-gym-of-olympians/, http://www.2020lifestyles.com/get-started/get-started-online/expert-help.aspx, http://www.katiedidwhat.com/how-to-start-a-lifestyle-blog/
In leading a healthy lifestyle, it is important to surround yourself with people who have the same goals and aspirations. Having people like this in your life keeps you accountable and motivates you to attain your goals.
One specific person I have in my life that maintains a healthy lifestyle is my mom, Melissa. She worked in the health club industry for 20 years, as a workout instructor and in marketing. Her experience in this industry has lead her to incorporate healthy habits into her life, which in turn has influenced the way I was raised and my decisions. My mom's passion for working out lead me to play sports while growing up and continuing to workout in college. Her eating habits also influenced mine as she always had healthy food in the house, which lead to little access to junk food for me. My mom recently went through a workout program with a sports club in Seattle, and she posted pictures of her progress throughout the 10 weeks. Another person that has similar interests in leading a healthy lifestyle is Lindsey Bomgren, who is a blogger I found that posts about eating healthy and staying active. While Lindsey isn't a college student, her blog is relatable in that it gives an abundance of recipes and various types of workouts that her viewers can do to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Her blog has also given me inspiration in different items to include in my future blog posts. In order to obtain a goal, having people in your life with like-minded goals and values as well as seeking out external information to try and achieve your goals and values are both keys to success. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10201090149438828&set=t.1321437675&type=3&theater https://www.nourishmovelove.com Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is multi-faceted, especially while in college. To be successful, you must balance nutrition, exercise, a social life, and relationships along with what we are in college for, school. In doing research, I found important elements for being successful in each of these.
They say that to be healthy and get in shape, it is 80% what you put into your body and 20% physical activity, thus nutrition is an extremely important part, if not the most important part, of leading a healthy lifestyle. In college, we often get stuck staying up late, finishing assignments and snacking on whatever we can find. We also are on a fairly tight budget, so we tend to grab what's cheapest and most convenient. Planning meals at the beginning of every week is a great way to make sure you are eating enough throughout the day, keep you from the temptation of going out and spending money on unhealthy foods, and if you're packing your own food, you know exactly what you're putting into your body. Packing healthy snacks like veggies, fruits and nuts, along with proteins are much better for you than foods that contain preservatives, additives and chemicals that can deteriorate your body. Another key piece of eating well is keeping everything in moderation, which allows you to eat some 'cheat' food every once in a while. Studies find that a person needs about 30 minutes of cardio at least three times weekly to stay healthy. For college students, this is relatively easy to fit into our busy schedules. These 30 minutes of cardio can be broken up throughout the day, whether that be a 10 minute walk in the morning, 10 minutes of abs between classes, or 10 minutes of jumping jacks to break up a homework assignment. Most college campuses also have fairly large gyms on campus that have tons of equipment and group classes offered throughout the day. Having a friend that has the same values and goals that you do is going to be extremely beneficial in helping you obtain your goals when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle. These types of relationships will help you to push one another and will allow you to be there for each other in times of weakness. Nutrition and exercise are key elements of maintaining a healthy lifestyle in college, however maintaining certain relationships and a social life are also important to remaining happy throughout college. http://www.bestcollegereviews.org/health-and-nutrition-for-college-students/ https://www.dosomething.org/us/facts/11-facts-about-healthy-living http://www.sustrans.org.uk/policy-evidence/the-impact-of-our-work/related-academic-research-and-statistics/physical-activity |
